Welcome to EATbyalex
Dear all,
I am honoured to welcome you to a week of highly nutritious food created and prepared by our team of chefs. All your meals have been handcrafted in our EATbyalex LAB in Zürich using organic, plant-based and 100% natural ingredients. The menu is vegan, gluten-free and refined sugar free to give your body energy and fuel for the day.
The diversity of our menus means that you will discover new flavours and food combinations that will inspire you to consume more plants. We are very proud to source and cook with seasonal ingredients, and whenever possible local. We want to provide you with the most sustainable source of nutrition and with the highest content of nutrients.
This welcome guide will provide you with more information about deliveries, how to heat up your meals and will also give you further healthy snack ideas that you can consume in addition to your meal plan.
We have a zero waste kitchen and only cook what your order! Your ready-to-eat meals are cooked once a day, then immediately delivered to you and will be good for at least 3 days from production. You can find the production date on your delivery label.
Discover our creative menus on Next Week’s Menu page.
Our whole team wishes you an amazing start and is looking forward to cooking for you.
Sincerely yours,
Alex

YOUR MEALS
There is no ideal time to eat your meals. Follow your own routine and listen to your body. If you rather have a lighter lunch and a heavier dinner, switch your lunch and dinner. We recommend at least a 12-hour overnight fast. During this period, your body takes 8 hours to fully digest and the next 4 hours are for cleansing.
More details about calories and nutritional values can be found under each meal.
The breakfast is either a shake or a bowl, either containing roughly 400 whole food calories. There is no ideal time to have your breakfast, follow your normal schedule. They can be heated up by transferring them to a pan and heated on low to medium heat. For the bowl, add first a little bit of water and stir well.
VITAMIN SHOT
The vitamin shots are high in natural vitamin C and are fortified with liquid vitamin B-12 & D. We also add natural probiotics to them by using our own ferments like water kefir or kombucha. The shots often contain fresh ginger, turmeric or cayenne pepper so if it’s too strong for you, our favourite way to have them is as a cup of tea first thing in the morning by adding hot water.
WHOLE FOOD LUNCH
The lunch bowls are delicious at room temperature so rather than heating them up, we suggest removing them from the fridge at least 30 minutes before eating them. If you prefer a warm meal, remove the fresh leaves, transfer to a pan and heat on medium heat. Once it’s at your desired temperature, transfer to a plate, add the fresh leaves and the dressing. Microwave also works, but you need to first transfer to a porcelain bowl.
NOURISHING DINNER
We highly recommend having your dinners warm, they will keep you fuller and more satisfied. Transfer to a pan and heat them with a bit of water. You can also transfer to a bowl and steam or microwave them.
POWER TREAT
The treats are a great snack in the afternoon in between meals but also a great dessert after lunch or dinner. Don’t forget that this is not a diet so if you feel that you need more energy, you can supplement your day with healthy snacks, see our recommendation further down.
PROTEIN SHAKE
The protein shakes are charged with superfoods like berries, spirulina and cacao. We use proteins from pea and hemp seeds which in addition to the other nuts and grains add up to 15 to 20 grams of natural proteins and 450 whole food calories. It’s a great meal to have after training to replenish your body with the nutrients your body needs.

FOOD STORAGE
Please keep all your meals refrigerated at all times. We highly recommend removing your breakfast and lunch 30 minutes before consuming them. Food consumed at room temperature is more easily digested and in our opinion tastes much more fragrant.
ORGANIC
We only use organic produce. You can get the same vegetables and fruits in Bio shops like Vitus in Niederdorf or die frischlinge near Enge.
Both sell the same ingredients that we use in our weekly packages.
INGREDIENTS
Your menu has been specially designed to be as nutrient rich and bio-available as possible. We made sure that you consume foods in different forms. There is a mix of cold-pressed, blended, soaked, steamed, cooked, baked, toasted, fermented and finally raw foods to promote the best absorption rate.
BEST BEFORE DATE
The best before date of your meals can be found on your address label used to close your bags. Our meals are best consumed within 3 days since production. Soups and shots are good for at least 5 days. Additionally, the soups, shakes and shots can be frozen and will keep for at least 3 months so if you don’t eat all your meals, freeze them for later!!
DETOXIFICATION SYMPTOMS
If in addition to our plant-based and refined sugar free meals you decide to stop or reduce your consumption of caffeinated drinks, you might experience mild to very strong headaches. Drinking plenty of water will help relieve the symptoms. If your headaches persist, we suggest having a black coffee or tea.
Many people experience few if any symptoms but some of them are indicative of toxins leaving the body. In fact, the more toxins there are to be eliminated, the more the symptoms you can experience.
You may feel weak, flu like symptoms, nausea, dry mouth, constipation or diarrhea, bloating and/or gas, feeling cold, irritability and feeling hungry.
If you have any type of diagnosed health condition, allergies or are on any type of medication please consult your doctor prior to beginning our weekly packages.
ALLERGIES
Our meals are organic, vegan, dairy free and refined sugar free. We only use gluten-free ingredients, but traces cannot be excluded.
It’s very important that when signing up for our weekly packages, you specify your allergies. We want to offer an experience as varied as possible and can only accept a limited number of requests. We will do our best to accommodate your needs but cannot exclude the possibility of traces of it. We cannot accept allergies to nuts, seeds, grains and ginger except in specifically discussed and approved cases.
CONSCIOUS PACKAGING
We have carefully picked the most ecological packaging possible. The breakfast, lunch and dinner cardboard bowls are made from sustainable sourced wood, lined with PLA. They should be rinsed and recycled with cardboard. The transparent lids and containers are not made of plastic but of a low-carbon and plant-based material called PLA. They are degradable and can be disposed of with your regular trash. The shake, dinner and shot bottles are PET and should be recycled in PET containers found near shops like Migros and Coop.
Our Values
Not a diet
Our weekly packages have been designed to bring the right nutrients and vitamins to your diet by using as many local and seasonal fruits and vegetables as possible.
No calorie counting
Calories are a measure of energy, but each calorie is very different depending on the type of food you eat. Calories from carbs can’t be compared to those from fats or proteins because they are differently processed and absorbed by your body.
Rather than counting calories, we want to help you eat the right amount of nutrient-rich food using a balanced macro-nutrient approach.
FRESH. LOCAL. ORGANIC.
The meals are prepared using fresh vegetables that have been locally sourced from farmers around Zurich wherever possible. That way, we make sure that all your meals have the highest content of nutrients. Most of the nuts, seeds and grains are sourced in Europe with only some of the superfoods like cacao, Himalayan salt or coconut coming from further away.
COMPLEX CARBS
Carbs are not bad for you, but they must come from whole foods. These are called complex carbs and include ancient grains like millet, amaranth, quinoa, and whole grains like black rice. Whole means it contains all parts of the grain —the fibrous bran, the nutritious germ and the carb-rich endosperm. Other complex carbs include legumes like chickpeas, beans and lentils but also all vegetables.
COMPLETE PROTEINS
Some people say you can’t get enough protein from plants but in fact whole foods are very high in protein and are easier to digest. Complete proteins, containing all 10 amino acids, that our body can’t produce, are found in foods like quinoa, buckwheat, hemp seeds, chia seeds and flaxseeds.
GOOD FATS
Fat is completely misunderstood and was given such a bad image when actually good fats found in nuts, seeds, whole grains and cold-pressed oils like coconut and olive oil are essential to the body. These healthy fatty acids are not making us fat but are needed to feed our most important organ, the brain!
LOAD UP ON GREENS
Greens are a great source of chlorophyll and a natural prebiotic on which beneficial bacteria feed. Chlorophyll is responsible for the green colour in plants.
It is valued for its ability to cleanse our blood by helping remove toxins deposited from dietary and environmental sources. It is also linked to the body’s production of red blood cells, making daily consumption important for ensuring the body’s constant cell regeneration and for improving energy levels.
