Women's Health and Beetroot?

Women's Health and Beetroot?

Whether eaten raw as a salad or carpaccio, roasted, pickled or mixed into a soup or smoothie, beetroots don’t only taste delicious, they are also very beneficial for your health.

Apart from its earthy flavour and beautiful colour, beetroot is also known as a super food due to its nutritional value. Not only are beetroots packed with essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B9, manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C., but they are also low in calories. Betalains, the pigments which give beetroots their vibrant colour, have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer effects thus constituting the perfect boost for your immune system. Beetroots are also a good source of fibre, which are known to support your digestive system and promote gut health.

But why are Beets so amazing for women?

Along with the benefits mentioned above, beets contain folate (vitamin B9) which is important during pregnancy to avoid neural tube defects in a growing baby. This makes them the perfect addition to your diet during pregnancy. Along with that, a study conducted on mice and rabbits in 2017 even suggests that beetroots may have a positive impact on fertility as well as an increase in reproductive hormones. Further research is needed, but this is an exciting topic to stay updated on! Beets are also hormone balancing through their rich source of cortisol reducing Vitamin C, serotonin promoting betaine, and thyroxine producing manganese. Vitamin C also helps you absorb iron, a mineral women are more likely to be deficient in due to menstruation. Studies are showing there may be a relationship between manganese and calcium consumption in reducing symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, but further research is needed.

Besides being super beneficial for your health, beets are incredibly versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes such as our beetroot hummus or our beetroot and blueberry bowl. Also be sure to try our Beet Balance Blend which combines beetroot, cranberry, ginger and maca powder with a hint of vanilla to make a delicious latte, cocktail/mocktail, shake or tea.
